Thankful for....

This past weekend we spent with family and friends....
I thought it to be a good idea to share out what we are thankful for....

Kim- I am thankful for family, friends, my new job, especially in this crazy economy, and most importantly my son and husband. I am a very blessed mother and wife with two fantastic and irreplaceable men in my life. Motherhood is more wonderful than I could have ever imagined and I thank God everyday for my wonderful son. (even at 2:30 in the morning). Joshua is an amazing father and life partner. I thank God for him everyday as well. I really can't imagine life without either one of them.

Josh- I am thankful for... (coming some day)
Jonah- my mommy and daddy, family, friends.

What a big Boy!!!

Jonah held his own bottle 11/24 and is hanging on to toys and of course, sticking them in his mouth. Enjoy the pics and vid. Can't wait to see everyone this weekend.

Tractor Ride

Last Saturday (11/21) Jonah had his first Tractor ride with Grandpa Petersen. He was wearing his big blue "smurf suit" but underneath he was all John Deere Green and farmer bibs. We went around for 1 round with the combine and then Jonah decided that he'd had enough and he'd rather eat. :-) So we went home to Gma and Gpas for a snack and nap before heading to Todd Stange's benefit. Which went really well.

Bball baby!

We went to Jonah's first basketball game on Friday night. Josh had to take tickets at the girl's jamboree and so Jonah and I went to watch for awhile. He did pretty well, tired, but good. He pretty much just chilled on my lap. Jumped a few times when the buzzer rang, but quickly got used to it. He liked watching the players run back and forth. Especially the refs it seemed like. (they had whistles... :-)

We left after the 3rd qtr, it was way past his bed time and he was starting to get real fussy.

Home, eat and then to bed.

More Formula

Jonah is up to 1/2 breastmilk and 1/2 formula in his bottles these days at daycare. Last night we even went as far as 3/4 formula and 1/4 breastmilk. He seemed to do okay with it and actually slept really well. Still squirming all around in his bed. Even when he is just asleep... so maybe that is a sign of he's waking and putting himself back to sleep? This morning he was sideways in his bed... :-) They said at daycare that he moves himself all around too and then complains when he sticks his legs through the slots b/c he can't move anymore. :-) Which I'd hope he would complain.

Well, that is all I have for now. Congrats to Matt and Kelsi! Autumn is beautiful!!!!

9:00pm!

He didn't go to sleep until 9:00pm and then he was back up at 1:30 for his hour long feeding! I wish he'd cut that out... I'd be happy with the 1/2 hr feedings we had back in the day. However, he's a growing boy and I understand. :-)

Hopefully he sleeps a little more today and TONIGHT!

Long day

We got up at 6:30, went to the early service of church (9:45) and then went to Wloo/CF for some window shopping and Olive Garden. Still not sure what to get everyone for Xmas, doesn't help that we haven't gotten any lists. :-P

We went to church and had a sleeping baby for about 10 min and then he woke up. He sat well with Dad though, ate from a bottle we brought.
We went to Olive Garden with a sleeping baby (15 min) and about 5 min in he woke up and sat cooing in his carseat. He got cranky right before we left. He ate a little more bottle and then we went into the mall.
We roamed the stores and he was pretty content, no sleeping though. We didn't buy much. A few Hawkeye shirts, a cute Xmas day outfit and a fun Thanksgiving bib. You'll have to wait for those pics. :-) He was slightly crabby as we came home, and still no sleeping.
We've been home for a few hours now and still no sleep.. pretty content to hang out on the floor on a lap, or on his lounger-- mostly on someone's lap. Very much a coo-er. He's got a lot to say today. :-)

John Deere Green

Jonah wore his first John Deere outfit today. Thanks to cousin Landon he has quite a few little outfits. This one is a little big around the middle, but decent in length, which doesn't show real well since he's sitting. :-) He's even got John Deere socks on. :-)

Below is Jonah on his rocking horse for the first time as well. He wasn't so sure about it, dad had to hold him on there and I think he was holding his breathe. Not much of a cowboy yet, but I'm sure he'll warm up to it soon. :-)



He's starting to sound better. Still has a little cough and stuffy nose, but he is starting to coo and talk more, which is a sign of a throat that is feeling better.

Another first

Jonah had his first few days of formula... well not all formula. We've been mixing breastmilk and formula at daycare only. I just can't seem to keep up with him with just breastmilk. The nice thing, and maybe this has nothing to do with it... but he has slept almost all the way through the night. Which does wonders for my sleep, but not for my milk supply. At this point, I'd almost go for the milk than the sleep. Not the end of the world I know, but not what we (I) had planned on. Enjoy the picture of my baby sleeping in his crib...what a big boy!


by the way, the doc said he was 13.5 pounds last Sunday. He is getting big! His next check up is on Dec 2. Not that far away anymore. It will be interesting to see how long he is.

A Bunch of 1sts

We've had a bunch of firsts these past few weeks. Below are some highlights:

1) First wagon ride: Saturday (11/7) Grandpa Kraft hooked up the horses and Jonah had his first wagon ride. He enjoyed it for the most part, as long as he was in his carseat. He didn't want to be held outside of it. Next time maybe a horse ride.. (next spring)

2) First Rollover: Tonight (11/10) Jonah rolled over two times in a row. We were all excited and hugged, kissed, and cuddled him. He looked at us like we were nuts and when we tried to get him to do it again he refused and just whined. We'll keep practicing though. :-)

3) First Cold: Stuffy nose, high pitch whines instead of cries, coughing, sleeping upright, smell of Vicks, humidifier running... all signs of a cold. Unfortunately he has had one for a couple weeks now and it doesn't look like it will go away anytime soon. Despite all our efforts to rid the bug. If we could only get him to stop putting his hands in his mouth! That might help... or not having to go to daycare. :-S

4) First set of Ropers: Great Aunt Annette sent some size 4 Justin Ropers in the mail the other day. They are really cute. Josh put one on his foot and he got really mad. It was so heavy he couldn't move his foot. It will be fun to see him in them in a few months. :-) He'll be ready for that first horse ride.

Unfortunately a soon to be last.... (coming sooner than we hoped):
My milk supply has gone WAY DOWN since going back to school. I was getting at least 2 pump times in a day, but lately it has only been 1 time. I'm only able to bring home half of what he is eating a day at daycare. I only have enough for one more day of daycare. We are going to have to start mixing breastmilk with formula to keep going from a bottle. The doc said NO solids until at least 4 months, so 3 more weeks to go.

I HATE that I'm running so low... hopefully I can find some more time to pump and get my supply back going. PLEASE PRAY for milk!! He is going strictly breast at home, except the last few nights he won't eat from me so we give him a small bottle and then I pump to replace it. (but again, not getting much)

I'm drinking lots of water, eating oatmeal EVERYDAY, and eating my special cookies (have brewers yeast and oatmeal in them). What else can I do?

sleeping???

So it didn't work AS WELL as the night before, but it did work decently well. He cried almost instantly after putting him in bed. He knew what was going to happen. :-)

We went in at least 3 times, waiting almost 10 min in between each. He finally settled down at 8:30ish to be asleep and slept until 2ish. So same amount of time as last night, just an hour later. But then he was up again at 5 instead of 5:30.

Hopefully we will get better sleep in the future.

Crying it out... sleeping wonders

I have never been a fan of this method, but last night made me a little more of a believer.

Jonah slept quite a while last night in his own bed! What a big boy! No swing needed last night. We decided that since he’s getting a taste of “cry it out” on the way to and from daycare each day in the carseat, we’d try it in bed. At 7pm I laid him down sleepy, but awake and for the first 15 min he laid there happy and entertained himself. Then he began to cry and after about 10 min of crying I went in to soothe him. He quieted right down and I walked out, 5 min later.. ASLEEP! He didn’t get up again until 1ish. Then again at 2, we let him cry since it had only been an hour (1/2 hr really since feeding takes about 20-30 min). He cried, josh went in to soothe, and then I went in to feed after about 20 min of crying total. He fell asleep and slept until 5:45, which was perfect timing since that is when my alarm goes off. So we got up for the day, he ate, got dressed and hung out with dad while I got ready and then we headed off for daycare at 6:45. He didn’t sleep the whole way to daycare, not really until we got to Lincoln (3/4 the way there) and so he was just barely asleep when we got there, I hope he go to sleep longer. He was so tired. I stopped to get gas before taking him in to daycare and he’d look at me through the window, but looked SO tired. In the 6 blocks between gas and daycare he had konked out.

Halloween

Jonah went on his first Halloween trick or treating trip. I took him around to the grandparents and dad went "pheasant hunting." We hung out at Grandma and Grandpa Meyer's for the first part of the day before heading to Grandma and Grandpa Petersen's and then to Great Grandma and Grandpa Oberheus, and finally to Great Grandma and Grandpa Kraft's.

He went as a duck, Paige and Aiden got to choose and they loved his tail on the duck outfit. So, we got him dressed and headed out. There are some pictures of our day. We took some new "cousins" pictures as well. Enjoy!

PS- I know the poll said pumpkin wins, but Aiden liked the duck better. He "was" a pumpkin when he was "in" the pumpkin... kind of. :-)
I had the pumpkin costume along just in case the duck became a dirty duck, but it wasn't needed. :-)
