1 Month Old

Miss Hattie has turned 1 month! She' growing like a weed. Already up to 8lbs 6oz  and still 19 3/4 inches. She's in the 25%tile for weight and only 10%ile in height. She's still a little peanut, but growing fast.

She loves to lay on the floor on a blanket and coo. Kick and squirm. She also loves to be in her swing and watch her big brother run around and be crazy.
She's always searching for the sounds around her these days. Here she is listening to the cartoons on TV.

Jonah had to join the photo shoot as well.

Kick, kick, kick!

Omaha 2012

So we were planning on taking a trip to the Omaha Zoo at the end of July. Well, the plans changed quickly as a few other things got moved around at the last minute and Monday night I found myself packing and prepping for a trip to Omaha the next day. :-)

Hattie slept ALL NIGHT 9:45-7:30 (only getting up at 4:30 and 5:30 to eat for 7-8 min each) and I was worried our 4hr car ride would turn into a MUCH longer trip due to having to stop and eat all the time. However, she slept the entire trip! She ate when we ate for lunch, but other than that, she was OUT.

We went to the Omaha Children's Museum first and Jonah had a GREAT time. We went through the whole building and you guessed it, Hattie slept through the majority of it. :-)

Then we headed to our hotel room at the Best Western Kelly Inn and Josh and Jonah went swimming. We were originally going to stay in Council Bluffs, since we heard it was cheaper, but we got a great tip on this hotel. It had the perfect swimming pool for Jonah (0-4ft), decent rooms, and it was really close to some great restaurants, the museum, and the zoo. We also got 4 passes to the zoo with our room plus a snack baggie for each kid (like we needed 2).

We went to Valentino's buffet to eat, it was pretty good. Something for everyone- we even got some cotton candy! Haven't had that in a LONG time. Jonah wasn't a fan. I don't think he even got any in his mouth, but he wasn't real willing to try it.

Back to the hotel to swim some more. Jonah got super comfortable on the frog slide and even went down one time on his tummy... came up sputtering and never attempted that again. :-)

The night went okay, Jonah and dad in one bed and Hattie and mom in another. Dad got a lot of shots to the ribs and Hattie was up quite a bit grunting and eating. Typical since she slept all day again, but now she kept everyone up instead of just mom.

We got up in the AM, packed up, tricked Jonah into putting on sunscreen and ate at Perkins. :-) Off to the zoo. I didn't take as many pictures as I would have liked, seemed we were all just caught up in the fun to take too many.

Jonah HATED the aquarium, he didn't really want to go near the glass when fish were around and when we went through the tunnel, he kept leaning back when I'd take him up close to the animals swimming overhead. Josh thought it was hilarious. The pic of us in the bubble to the tank, I'm holding him in there, he didn't want to be anywhere near it.

His favorite spots were the GIRAFFES!!! He talked about it all the way there, while we were there, and on the way home. Too bad I didn't get any pictures of them. He also liked the Rhinos, monkeys, and bears. The Polar bear was in his cave. I came back from feeding Hattie and it was explained to me that "He is a cold bear mommy, it is too hot for him.... he's a cold bear mommy, it's too hot for him today." etc, etc, etc.... :-) We had to come back later to see if the polar bear came out yet, but he never did.

After our fun day at the zoo we got back in the car and headed home. Jonah and Hattie slept all the way to Toledo (3 hrs)... mom did from Omaha to Des Moines... then we were all trying to keep Hattie happy the rest of the way home. :-)

It was a GREAT TIME, fast, but fun. Can't wait to go back in a few years to take Hattie to the zoo when she'll remember it.
Enjoy the pics!

3 Weeks Old Already

Miss Hattie Jane is 3 weeks old already, man where does the time go?

She still is in her routine of eat, sleep, and poop. She's been more awake though in the last few weeks and when she's awake, she's alert and talkative. She loves to kick and swing her arms around. She loves to sit up on your lap, not lay on your chest, and since her cord finally fell off at 3wks of age (not the typical 10-14days) she has also learned she's not a fan of tummy time. She tolerated it for the first minute or so. She's pretty good at scooting herself off the blanket already and swinging her lower half over in what looks like attempts to roll over to her back. I'm sure it's all involuntary/innate movements, but those movements will all come with a purpose sooner than later I'm sure.

Her quite sleeping has gone away, she's still not as loud of a sleeper that Jonah was, but she has her grunting marathons at night.

Next week, July 16, she has her 1 month bday and appt. with Dr. Mangold. I'm excited to see how much she weighs. We didn't have to have a 2wk appt so it's taken a lot of patience to find out. Many think she is over 7lbs by now and that she's gained some length as well.

Her NB clothes finally arrived from Carters.com (long story... see below) and she still fits into them. I thought they'd be too long for her yet, but they are just about perfect. We also got a few used items on the Vinton FB For Sale page. So she's set with pink and purple for a bit. Many of the new things we've been getting from friends and family are all WAY to big for her now. Even the 0-3 mo things are too big. She'll be in them sooner than later I'm sure. :-)

She's been a great eater. Still not a big fan of eating on both sides yet. She will once in a while, but not very often. So I'm always emptying one breast with her and then pumping on the other side. I'm not very good at ALWAYS pumping after I feed, usually only when I'm super full or at least 1x per night. We are still putting away for later, the milk supply in the freezer has at least doubled since the last "milk post."

Hattie has been on many outings again in the last few weeks. She went to her first parade and fish fry with the Petersen's camping group. Brother Jonah was in the parade with his idol Danny Bohlen, doing the head nod of a cowboy instead of waving his hat this time. (this slight gesture he picked up by watching Danny's every move at the last races).

We haven't been able to do much else b/c of the HEAT! It's been record heat here in Iowa and everywhere else for a couple weeks now. We can't seem to leave the AC for any length of time without the melting feeling taking over. Jonah - lover of everything outside- won't even leave the house. Things have been getting better though and we are hoping to get out and about here in the next few weeks as it is supposed to get cooler. Maybe a trip to the zoo?

Hope you enjoy our little life happenings and the pictures to go with them. I hope to continue doing updates every few weeks, but life happens. :-D

PS- cater's story... so I ordered a bunch of NB clothes the day after we arrived back home from the hospital so that she'd have something to wear. I got an email saying it would take 7 days to arrive. 4 days into shipping it then said it wouldn't be here until July 6. The package went from Mississippi, to California, to Wisconsin, to Kansas, to Illinois, and then finally to Iowa. AND it wasn't even delivered to my house by the carrier, it went to the post office for them to deliver it. UGH. They finally arrived on July 8 and thankfully they still fit. :-)

PSS- Jonah was super silly this week, here are a few of photos of Jonah or Jonah's ideas for pictures. :-)
Always wants to hold her and then "take a picture mom"

He's also wanted to start "me sit here too"

100+ degrees outside and he's got to wear his hat inside, also had on his coat in the house

he wanted her to sleep in his bed with him

she wasn't a fan, but he didn't mind. :-)

chilling in the living room :-)
