2 month Doc Visit
So we had our 2 month visit to the doctor today for immunizations and such. We had quite the day. He slept from 8am-9:30 when I woke him up for a diaper and outfit change to head to Waterloo. He fell asleep again in the car, about 10:05 and slept until we were at the doctors office at 12:45ish.
We got to the docs at 12:30 for a 1:00 appointment to find a long line at the reception desk. The computers were down and everything was being done by phone calls and on paper. We get up to the counter and come to find out that we are not on the "schedule" for today and we were scheduled for the 30th, not the 29th. Dr. Naeem isn't in today and so I was sent up to 2nd floor to Peds to see what I could do since they do their own scheduling. They said they could get us in at 2:20, I said fine can I feed him somewhere since he just woke up. The nurses said yes, but that I needed to go back downstairs to register before he would be able to be seen. So I went back downstairs to the reception desk to an even longer line, and waited for about 20 min before getting the form needed to get registered. Then back upstairs to the East side, not the West (where Dr. Naeem's office is) and they took me back right away so Jonah could eat.
A nurse came in just after I started to feed and said that we could be seen right away and gave me a form to fill out. She came back about 10 min later and asked me a bunch of questions, took his vitals and such. He was done eating so we took him out to be weighed and measured.
He is 11 pounds 10 ounces and is 22 1/2 inches long. So he's gained almost a full pound since I was at breastfeeding support group 2 weeks ago and almost 2 inches if you go by his measurement at his 2 wk appointment. :-)
After she left we waited 45 minutes for the PA to come in, wish it were a Dr. but oh well, and she was the barer of good and bad news
good:
- he is in the 50th percentile for both his weight and height and the 25th percentile for his head measurements... all fine.
- his vitals and reflexes are all good and normal
- he is doing well with cooing and developmentally doing well
bad news:
- he needs to start looking to his left more, (our right) he is favoring the right side and she doesn't want him to develop a shortened muscle on that side. Today he wouldn't turn that way at all, not even to look at me... she had to force his head around to look in his ears and such.
- he has thrush (the white stuff on his tongue) so we both have a prescription to get rid of it. He needs it 4x a day and I use it after he has fed from me.
- we need to use hydrocortisone cream 1-2x daily on his head to get rid of the dryness and aquafilic cream a few times a day too to moisturize it.
- he has super sensetive skin so we need to wash his clothes in dreft or "free" soaps and not use any soaps on his skin that have scents in them. There goes all the good smelling stuff that we got from everyone. Anyone need and sweet smelling baby wash?
- She said to get him to sleep better at night I need to do 2 things
1) keep him up as much as possible during the day, until he is really upset, like overtired and not let him sleep more than 2 hrs at a time during the day, and then
2) don't rock him to sleep anymore, put him in bed semi awake and let him cry or fuss until he falls asleep if he does so. "He needs to learn to self soothe." (in anticipation of that advice today I bought on of those soothing sounds bears. hopefully that isn't breaking the rules too much)
- he got his shots today--- screamed bloody murder for about 5 minutes and then fell asleep in his carseat before we got to the car.
So after the PA left, the nurses came in and gave him his shots. They were super wonderful and kind, but he hated the shots... as any baby would. He took down the tylenol they gave him and the one immunization that was oral and then did the shots together. They even counted to 3.
The nurses are great, Dr. Naeem is wonderful.... I just wish we could go directly to them instead of hanging out on 1st floor first. (We go to People's Clinic- you can imagine on your own).
He slept all the way home and we'll start the stay up all day thing tomorrow.
Wish us luck and PRAY for us too. We will more than likely need lots of PRAYER!!!

Jonah's Baptism
Today was Jonah's baptism. He was a super trooper during the whole thing. He woke up just as we got to the theater and he was happy and content the whole time during the ceremony, and pretty happy the rest of the service. He ate a little (by bottle), rocked a little, and fell asleep again before we left.
Mike Brost was the one who did the baptism and Dave Bartlett gave the message of the day. Even though the whole church experience was totally different for most (in a theater, live band, loud music, no 'traditional' parts at all) they really enjoyed it.
It was an eventful day with family here and such, but he did a pretty good job being happy and letting others feed him with the bottle while Mom was still in the room. :-)
Thanks to everyone who made the day so special.
Below are some pictures from the day.

Still sleepy
Nothing has changed, (please pray harder!) he is still getting up every two hours to eat and fuss at night. Last night I was awake from 1:15-2:30, feeding for 25 min and then rocking to try to get him back to sleep the rest of the time. SO TIRING! He got up again shortly after and so Joshua go up with him to rock him. At 4:30 and I fed him until 4:50 on just one side and fell asleep, I wasn't going to wake him up for the other side, thankfully he slept until about 6:45. Josh played and talked with him for a little bit and then he ate and went back to sleep here now at 8ish. We've got to get our days and nights switched around!
I'd like to start our "school routine" next week, but that might just kill me. Let's hope he gets it figured out soon or we figure out what to do to get it changed.
ADVICE WELCOME!!!

Sleep Deprived!!!!!
I thought children were supposed to become BETTER sleepers as they got older? Our son has gotten worse. We are back to the first week home sleeping patterns. In a week's time we have gone from every 3 hrs to every 1 1/2 hrs and last night there were even 1 hr stretches inbetween feedings. It would be different if he wasn't eating well during those time periods, but he is eating 10 min on each side.
It is during the day that he doesn't eat extremely well and he also DOESN'T SLEEP during the day either... unless I'm holding him. If I lay him down he is up in 5-10 minutes. Usually just enough time for me to go to the bathroom, eat a snack, or lay down and get comfortable. Right now he is in his swing, and every few minutes or so he is grunting and making noise....so he's not REALLY asleep. Josh got up with him from 5-6:45 this morning until he had to get ready for school. I've been up with him ever since.... PLEASE PRAY FOR SLEEP!!!! for both of us.
7 weeks and sleeping like a newborn! I'm SO glad I'm not back at work yet, I wouldn't be the best to work with right now with this little sleep. :-/

Tuesday... in the car again!
Today mommy had her 6 wk check up with Dr. Hintz and we went to breastfeeding support group before the appointment. It was a good time, 6 baby boys all in the same room of varying ages. I was almost the biggest... not oldest, but almost the biggest! Mommy weighed me and I was 10 pounds and 12 ounces. That is a whole 2 more pounds in the last 4 weeks. In a few more weeks I go back to Dr. Naeem and she'll weigh me again.
Mom got a clean bill of health and Dr. Hintz joked with her about seeing her soon. Mommy said that she really hoped she wouldn't see him again until her 1 year exam. :-) We'll see what God has planned though, somehow I think mommy and daddy would really prefer for me to be a big boy before I have a sibling.
Have a good day! Hopefully tomorrow I get to just STAY HOME!

Another busy day
Yesterday, Monday we went to Des Moines to get mommy's 3rd row seat fixed. It was broke when they bought it I guess. It was a long car ride down there but I slept the whole way, mommy did some shopping, and then we went to the car shop. They took the seat out and said they'd call when they got it fixed. So mommy and I started home, we got to Bondurant and I woke up (mommy says finally!) It was 3:30pm. So I ate, pooped a HUGE mess in my diaper that spread up my back and all over my onesie and mommy's lap. After she got the mess cleaned up, me changed, and herself cleaned up and disinfected with germ-x we started on the road again. After only 10 minutes I was screaming and so mommy pulled over to feed me some more. I ate, calmed down, and went back into my carseat. Another 1o minutes I was SCREAMING bloody murder (real tears by the time mommy got pulled over again). She got me out again and I wasn't hungry, just wanted to be snuggled. After about a half hour of sitting in a driveway next to hwy 330 I was finally content enough to go back into my carseat and we made it home. (at 5:30!!)
Daddy made supper, and mommy was glad. Man I'm glad to be out of that car seat and home. It seems we are always on the go!
Until Next time,
Jonah

My Day with Grandma Petersen
Mommy went to school for the first day of TAG on Sept 10 and so Grandma Petersen came down to take care of me for the day. She spent the night on Wednesday and then got up as mom and dad were getting ready for school on Thursday. Grandma held me as mom headed out the door and mom kissed me at least 5 times. yuck!
After both mom and dad were gone she changed my dirty diaper and then I ate for 15 min. I slept for a while in my swing and then grandma carried and rocked me in her arms and I would tease her. I would close my eyes for a while, then when she really thought I was asleep, I'd pop them open and she'd keep walking and rocking me. :-) I do that with mommy too. :-)
She finally got me asleep after I ate a bit more at 10:30 and man was I hungry. She changed my diaper again and I slept on my lounger from 11-2:00. I slept a long time, but not long enough, grandma didn't get my curtains done while I napped. She figured out she needed more fabric for the valances and really hopes that the store still has the same fabric.
I was hungry again so she got out my mommy milk and when she was warming it up under the water it started to leak, then she opened the bottom of the bottle by mistake and spilled it! I only got an ounce and a half. So she had to go get some of my frozen mommy milk to make up for it. Oh well. It still tasted good. I played with the bottle for about an hour until mommy got home and Grandma headed home to pack for Spencer and get some sleep before work in the morning.
It was a great day, I can't wait until she comes back when mommy goes to work for real on Oct 15.

Spencer Fair!
We went to Spencer Sept 11-13 and it was a lot of fun for fair and chuckwagon races. We stayed at the cabin again in Ruthven, just the bottom half this year. The major drawback to that was that the thermostat is upstairs and the people above us both days (2 sets of people) like it cold. SO... that meant we froze downstairs. :-) The first set of people were nice and turned it down for us in account for me... but the second set we never saw or talked to, we woke up quite chilly throughout the night. Mom and dad kept me quite bundled inbetween feedings.

We went on our annual walk again, through the woods and up the big hill. We took a family picture at the top, (you can see the hill in the background).
Sunday at the races we decided to take a family picture with the wagon. Don't I look sharp!
June has two non-traditional horses for her gray powderpuff wagon. :-) (Danny always has black horses, but this year also has a set of grays) She has Hank- a sorro and Silver is a gray. So Scott and Stan were helping move the wagon for hitching and since they were dressed so similarly (shirt colors), we took a pic of them being her horses. :-) FUNNY! They were even on the correct side of the hitch. :-)

I hated sponge baths, but I LOVE water baths.
:-) Here I am in my whale tub from Great Aunt Doreen. How ironic, but appropriate for a guy with my name.

Labor Day Weekend
We went to visit up north over the labor day weekend and had a lot of firsts.
I went to the campground for the first time. I hung out with family friends, had my picture taken with my "twin" (grandpa petersen), and slept a lot on his tummy.

We spent the night with Grandma and Grandpa Meyer both Saturday and Sunday nights. We went to my first Chuckwagon Races of my born life (mommy says I've been to a few in her tummy).
I don't know what everyone gets all jumpy about, I slept right through most of them. :-) Mommy got to see most of the Nashua races the first day, but day 2 she missed June's race because I was hungry. I didn't know....
After the weekend I was pretty wore out and "overstimulated" as there were many hands on me and my schedule was totally out of wack. However, I recovered by mid week and then we went to Spencer!

Sleeping Beauty
Last night we had a GREAT nights sleep. He was a little fussy at the start, but dad rocked him to sleep around 10 and then he slept till 1, then 4:30, then 6:30. So 3, 3, 2 hrs stretches. He's been napping a lot again today, a good 45 min nap about an hour after he got up and now again from 10:30-still sleeping (1pm). He slept right through my chiro appointment, which was great. It was a MUCH needed appointment. I've been getting headaches, just a changaroo from carrying him in front of me to carrying a car seat to the side and lifting/setting him down all the time. We'll go back again next week just to make sure we are still in place. :-)
Have a great weekend everyone! We'll be back Sat-Mon. I'll bring Jonah to the campgrounds on Saturday while Josh shingles his dad's garage. The the races on Sun and Monday. Jonah might even get to go on his first ever Grandpa Kraft wagon ride. Should be a fun weekend!

Mom's new ride!

We brought home a 2007 Yukon SLT last night. We (I) was able to haggle them down to our price point. It blue-booked for about 31K and we got it for 25,500. It is funny how you can get what you want from a car salesman when you say "NO" multiple times. It was also in our favor that it was the last day of the month and that we were buying a GMC at a Nissan dealership. We were also buying it with no trade in, so they wouldn't have to get rid of ours again. They apparently really love to meet their 'car goal' for the month and will do just about anything to get one sold. :-)
So the ride is pretty nice, we'll bring it home this weekend to test out our room and such. See you all soon.
