Strep.. YUCK!

I went to the doctor today, they didn't have any openings when I called at 8am, but they called back a few hours later to tell me there was a cancellation.

So, the verdict is.... STREP THROAT!! :-(

I have meds for the next ten days. I made sure to ask for something safe for Jonah and that would hopefully not reduce my milk supply. Dr. Frisch said it depends on the person. So, oatmeal and water... keep it up!

So, tough call on if we are coming back this weekend. I've had my first round of meds, but they say you should be on them for 24 hrs before heading back to school, so I'll let Joshua make the call. I don't want to get anyone sick back north.

Staying home Friday... :-(

I called the Allen Birthing Center to ask about if it was safe for me to continue breastfeeding Jonah if I am coming down with something. The nurse said she didn't want to make the call since Jonah is so young. So she advised me to call his doctor, so I did. I called People's Clinic and they had the on-call doctor call me and she said (real short call) that I need to be wearing a mask when I am around him, wash my hands before and after handling him, and yes it was okay to continue breastfeeding. I asked her what I could do for me to get better and she said to call my doctor. She also said that they can treat me so that I am sick for a shorter amount of time.

So I called Grundy Clinics and the on-call nurse told me that I could take IBprofen for my symptoms but that I should get into the doctor as soon as I can. I'm going to call in asap in the AM to get an appointment if I can.

Jonah is not going to daycare on Friday and I'm not going to school. I never call in sick, this is the 2nd time in my entire life I have missed work. Two years ago I was puking sick on Easter and missed the Monday after. I just don't want to take the risk of us getting any sicker and just stay home and rest, besides getting into the doctor. Josh really played a big part in swaying me to stay home as well. He was me logic in this decision, otherwise I'm sure I would have gone and continued to be sick and maybe get worse, "just push through" kind of attitude.

So please PRAY for a speedy recovery, that Jonah doesn't get more sick (what I have), and for this to be just an extreme sore throat and aches and NOT the flu, h1n1 or the seasonal.
(BTW- the nurse at Allen said that just b/c we got the vaccines, we aren't 100% safe. There are nurses that got both shots like us and still came down with the flu. Super reassuring.)

Hope to see you this weekend, but hope you understand if we/I don't make it back north. :-(

A 3 a little sniffly

So, I've got a sore throat and achy muscles, Jonah is hoarse and I guess had a low grade fever today at daycare, and Josh said he's pooped and coughing. I'm tempted to call in tomorrow, just to give Jonah and I a rest, but I think we'll go and see how things progress. Nurse Gloria is in tomorrow at school, I'm going to have her look at my throat. It's 6:45pm and we are all wiped out. Jonah is sleeping on Josh's chest and Josh is snoring.. I'm almost asleep here on the love seat. I could very easily head to bed.
Don't know if we should go home this weekend, but we don't want to miss Paige's party and trick or treating! We'll have to see.

Fall Fun....

Playing in the leaves... we wanted to play in the pile of leaves, but daddy already started it on fire... so we laid in the lawn sweep full of leaves. :-) Just as fun for someone my size. :-) I wanted to get out soon after getting in, but I didn't like it that I had to go inside, so mom put my hat on and brought me back out... (notice this was a few weeks ago, the leaves are DRY) :-)

Hope everyone is staying warm and dry this weekend!

Jonah

Pumpkin Wins!!!

So you voted... duck or pumpkin... The winner was pumpkin!

Doesn't he look cute? Okay, this isn't really his Halloween costume, he'll be in a much cuter and WARMER pumpkin outfit next weekend. We were carving our pumpkin this weekend and just couldn't resist... :-)

Stuffy nose and squeaky voice....

3 days of daycare and he's already caught a bug! It isn't bad though, just noticeable. We are combating it with saline drops, humidifier, making sure is nose is clear, sleep, and washing everything in sight or that has touched the daycare in anyway.
He's been a trooper thus far.

Happy news, he's sleeping in a crib better and better each day at daycare, he's even slept in his crib here at home for a while, not like he does in his swing, but we're getting there... something to work on this weekend.

He had his pictures taken today for the 3 month milestone, below is one of them. He was a little fussy, but did well.

Stay dry!

H1N1 Vaccine

I went this morning and got my H1N1 vaccine, it was quick and painless. My school nurse said I should get one ASAP since I am a caregiver of a child less than 6months old. Josh is going to get one today or tomorrow as well.

It is for the best since we both have confirmed cases of H1N1 in our schools and Jonah started daycare today! YIKES!

Healthy wishes all around,

Kim

Daycare Day 1

So, despite flu worries and leaving my child with "strangers" I left him there. Dad mentioned several times this morning how he was going to call in sick for the next few months to allow Jonah to stay home. :-) I'm all for swapping out weeks. :-)

I probably looked like a bad mom, but I just took him in and dropped him off. I didn't take him out of his carseat or give him a kiss, I knew if I would I'd get emotional. :-/

As someone said here, at least he is close (only 2 blocks away) and not in another town. I can go see him or go get him quickly.

Thanks for everyone's well wishes and words of encouragement. We shall get past this first few days of change and be into a routine soon.

THANK GOD for Grandmas!!

My brain is not with me today.....

I was awakened at 2:00 by my angel and didn't get back to bed until 3:30, my alarm went off at 5:30 to get ready for the day, so I'm blaming this all on sleep deprivation!

I forgot a whole lot of things at home today, thankfully my mom is at home with Jonah and was able to SAVE THE DAY. I forgot my school keys at home, which I can survive without, just makes things a little less convienent. I also forgot the caps to my pump bottles (no way to transport the 5 ounces of milk I pumped this morning.. :-) Dorinda gave me a plastic baggy to hold me over. I also forgot the little membranes that allow the suction to happen. Thankfully I have one that is in my bag always, so I was able to pump with one instead of 2 like I normally do, twice as long.
Mom brought my caps and membranes to school today for me, she is a LIFE SAVER!
I'm bum out of luck tomorrow though, we will all be gone. maybe donna.... ;-)

Pray for an attached head tomorrow. :-)

first few days back...

Thanks for waiting patiently... :-)

Thursday October 15, 2009
My first day back was a LONG one. I had to be at school for conferences so I was there from 7:45am until 8:05pm. Making my first day away from little Jonah a very LONG and somewhat harder day than it really could have been. I did okay as long as I didn't think too much about him, which was hard since I have pictures around me all the time, I pump- which it works best if I'm thinking of him, and everyone kept asking me how I was doing. :-)
He was with Grandma all day and night (daddy too) so it was easier to leave him than if I were dropping him off with people he didn't know.
The most wonderful part of Thursday was that I got a FULL 8 HOURS of sleep before going back. Jonah was a trooper and gave me the best "going back to work" present he could have ever given me. (he slept in his swing though)

Friday October 16, 2009
My 2nd day back was a little easier, he was fine with me going and it wasn't as long of a day so I was okay too. I made it home by 4:15 and hung out with him all night since daddy had to work the football game gate. We enjoyed our time together, though he was a little fussy... I think he missed grandma P.

Saturday we went to Cville for the day. Dad worked on Aunt Jill's bathroom and got hay for Grandpa Kraft. I went to see Matt and Mandy, but was a pretty fussy guest. I finally got a nap in there, in mommy's arms, just where I like it! We went home to sleep and up for church in the morning. Mommy and daddy are thinking of getting me into the nursery at church on Sundays, this is the 2nd Sunday in a row that mommy has missed most of the service b/c of my eating habits. She's even had bottles both times. The people in the nursery are pretty nice, so I'm not worried.

Monday- back to hanging out with Grandma. I won't be back until late again because of conferences, so Jonah will be with daddy until Mom gets home. Should be a fun night. Tuesday is our first day of daycare!

New Routine

So, we still aren't sleeping real great at night... been very fussy since Friday. However, we have to get on a solid routine going since I go back to work on Thursday. This morning we started by getting up at 5:30am and getting ready. I think I will be ready if things go as smoothly as this morning. He woke up about 2 minutes before my alarm, he ate, I ate, he went into his swing while I showered (because dad was still sleeping). I did my hair, got dressed, and makeup. He started to get fussy about 6:45, so he ate a little more and fell asleep again around 6:55 (when Dad finally woke up).

We are going to have to be on the road between 6:45 and 7:00am depending on if I have a 7:30 meeting or not. So, hopefully this routine continues. :-)

Kim
ps- I hope I get a nap today. ;-) I'm pooped!

Jonah's sleep Sun night: started routine around 6:45, ate, into bed by 9, up again 3x until 10.
Up again at 1:00 until 2:45 (that's the part that kills me), awake at 5:28am.

We hit a low

So, did I call it or what yesterday. :-S
We didn't have the best night in the world. Jonah was super fussy pretty much from the time of my last post until 8am this morning.
He wasn't a very happy baby at the farm, which was a big bummer b/c there were so many family members that wanted to see and hold him. I wish he would have been the sweetheart I know he is last night. :-(

Then on the way home he fell asleep when we got to Hwy 3 (about 8:15) and slept in his car seat then until 1:10. It was after that feeding that things went downhill. He was up every 30-45 minutes whining about something. He was definitely tired, yawning and rubbing his eyes, but wouldn't stay asleep in bed. I finally put him in his car seat again at 4:30 and he slept until 6ish. We got up for good at 7ish and he then fell asleep for a nap her at 8ish.

I hope he is good today for Theresa. :-)

Sleep Rollercoaster

So we had a great night, then we had an okay night, so hopefully tonight isn't a bad night.
We were at Grandma and Grandpa Petersen's since dad is in ND and so things couldn't be done EXACTLY like they are done at home, and his routine was a little thrown off. AND he got lots of sleep yesterday morning (8-12), so it wasn't until 11:45pm before he went to sleep, but then he slept until 5:30am. Good stretch, just not the ideal time frame. He slept again from 6-8 and then took a nap around 9 (about 45 min).

He went to the Coop to see the guys there and Grandpa P before heading off to the Luhring house to visit and pick out some of Landon's old clothes. The girls are getting big! We can't wait until they can all play together.

We went to Fareway, then to Clarksville where we are going to hang out at the farm tonight for supper before heading HOME to sleep. I have class tomorrow for IA State, Theresa is coming to hang out with Jonah while I connect virtually.

Hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying the new Fall weather!

9 hours! 6+3

I slept 6 hrs last night and then another 3 hours. Mommy was VERY pleased. AND it only took an hour to get me to sleep in my crib. I cried for a good 45 min of that hour. She wouldn't pick me up, but I clung to her hand that she had on me. I wasn't letting her go anywhere.
Mommy says "bahumbug" to anyone that says little ones don't understand they are being left in the crib.
I guess it was for the best for both of us, but we both really hated the crying.
We hope we get good sleep again tonight!

Jonah

Going hunting

Hey daddy look, I'm ready to go. I'm even dressed in layers to stay warm. Like my hat? I heard it was going to snow up in North Dakota this weekend so I decided I'd wear it to stay warm. When are we leaving? I can't wait to go hunting with you dad...

WHAT!!! YOU ALREADY LEFT????

I'm so sad you left me behind... and you are going to be gone until Sunday? I guess I'll have to hold down the fort here at home. Protect mom, since you took Jewel along. I'm gonna miss you.

love,
Jonah

Recognize these? They are PRE-baby jeans. :-) A little something to brighten my day as my 'return to work' date gets closer. Only 9 more days home with my little one.

2 months old

Hey look at me! I'm two months old already!

This past weekend we went back to Clarksville for Tyler's fball game, Kelsi's baby shower, and just to see family. I went to the baby shower with mommy while daddy went to the Iowa Hawkeye game. I went to Olive garden and shopping too.

Baby Shower at GC

We had a fabulous shower at Grundy Center Elem. yesterday. We had a cute cake (had a big whale on it) and snacks. The staff was wonderful with so many great books and other gifts.
It was so good to see everyone again and share my little Jonah with you all.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!!!

Kim & Jonah

I rumbled down under while Melissa was holding me. Everyone was SO surprised at how loud I was. :-)

Mom... who are all these people and why do they want to pass me around?

What a cute and yummy cake! THANKS Karen!

Sleeping soundly... for now

He slept for 5 hrs and then 3 hrs last night. :-) YEAH!!!!

It was great to get so much sleep. He is still sleepy today, napped a couple times already. I hope I'm not undoing what we did yesterday!

His thrush appears to be getting slightly better. He takes the medicine like a champ. (keep your fingers crossed that he continues to do so) He clearly doesn't like it, but he doesn't spit it all back out. :-) (again, cross your fingers). The cream that I have to put on me is a pain in the bum b/c I have to make sure it is all off before I can feed him and then put it back on after he is fed. Just another step when one is already sleepy in the wee-hours of the morning. :-)

Hopefully he sleeps again tonight!

Kim
