We had our first water bath instead of a sponge bath last night. He HATES sponge bathing and so we thought we'd just try the water. He really did well in it. Hardly any crying (which was great for me) and though he wasn't really enjoying the bath, he wasn't unhappy either. I don't think he really knew what to think.
We are coming home this Labor Day weekend so we hope to see and meet many of our friends up north who haven't had a chance yet to see him. We'll be at the races on Sat and Sunday and the campground with Gma/Gpa Petersen too. See you then!

What a big boy!
These pictures are from 'burping time.' He is getting pretty good at holding up his head and he seems pretty content sitting in that position. What a big boy!

So, the bootie picture is for Great-Aunt Jodi.
Grandma Petersen made a blanket for Jonah, it is now hanging on Jonah's wall so he can look at it while he gets his diaper changed or when he's in his crib (as he gets older). She said she knew we were pregnant long before we told her, she started the blanket in October. (We didn't even know until end of November!!!) She must have a sixth sense on things. :-) It is hard to see in the picture, but it has his full name on the top and weight, length, time of birth on the bottom.
Pee-Pee Tee Pees... Kelsi gave us a really cute gift for changing time. They are little tee-pees for his wee-wee when you change him. To prevent those sprinkler accidents. (pic coming soon- him clothed of course).

Jonah quirks...
Jonah has a few personality quirks we'd like to document... (we are sure they are typical, but they are part of him)
1) loves to look at the ceiling fans
2) He has to have his hands crossed when he sleeps and he likes to sleep on his side, not his back.
3) Looks the happiest (like he's in heaven) right after releasing from eating.

4) He snorts and grunts really loud when he is hungry and close to the breast. Super impatient with me to get it out.
5) He has to be swaddled to go to sleep in his crib, he has also started a fussy hour or two at night right before bed. We've resorted to walking while feeding (sitting doesn't go well), standing and swaying, and allowing him to be out of the blanket (he fights to get his hands out and screams) (I hope this phase passes soon!)

3 weeks old!!
3 weeks old, can you believe it? The ones in the boppy lounger show off his fingernail war wound. All healed up now, but awful looking at the time last week. We've beenkeeping a closer eye on those nails.

Short and Fat!
Hey everyone! I had my 2 week appointment yesterday and you know what that nurse told my mom? She said that I've gained a whole pound since I left the hospital. I was 7 lb 10oz on Aug 6 when I went home and yesterday I was 8lbs 10.5oz at my doc visit. She also said that I've shrunk!! That was the most shocking to me. I was so proud of being longer than my uncle Brandon when I was born, but actually it was all in my head...literally. The nurse asked my mom if I had a cone head when I was born, her response was "oh yeah." Apparently I had a whole inch of cone headness/swelling, because yesterday when they measured my length, I was only 20 3/4 inches. Oh well.
I also had a lot of fun visiting my friends Adilyn and Emilyn Luhring in the hospital. They are only 5 and 6 lbs, born C-section on Wednesday. So I look like a porker next to them. We all 3 fit into my carseat to take a picture. Mommy and Danielle said we were SO CUTE!
I guess I had a more relaxing day than mommy, because we were in and out of the car so much and I was sleeping so hard, I didn't eat too much yesterday during the day and so it put mom in a world of hurt both in the "feeding" area and for her sleep. (again!)
I'm wide awake now though, have been since 7am this morning. So I don't know what she is so fussy about. She just took a shower and I spit up all over my bouncy chair, which is a bummer since now I can't hang out in my favorite spot today. I guess I'll have to hang in the swing, lounger, or in mommy's arms. They won't be bad spots. :-)
We might go visit Daddy today at school, later on in the afternoon... maybe. Depends on how the rest of our day goes. Well, I think I'd like to eat again, so I'll sign off and talk to you all later!

Our 2nd Sleepover....
Our 2nd sleepover and birthday parties weekend was another great experience. Jonah didn't sleep as well at Grandma and Grandpa Petersen's, but it wasn't as crazy busy there either. He had lots of napping and hanging out in the arms of aunts and uncles time. He still got a few hours in between each feeding at night, so I can't really complain too much. :-)
Jonah also had his first 'church' experience this weekend. We intended it to be an actual church service at Orchard, our home church, but due to a late feeding and crazy mornings with a baby, we didn't make it in time. :-( So his first church experience was on Monday when we attended a good friend's father's funeral.
Please pray for the Nordman family as they continue to come to peace with the loss of a father and husband.
We are back home now, attempting to keep this little guy up since he's had so much time sleeping at the church and in the car. Josh goes back to school on Wednesday, my staff is already back and I must admit, it does feel a little weird to not be there too, but it is great being home with my 'guys.'
I can't believe that he is already 13 days old, mid-Oct. is going to come WAY TO FAST!!

Our first Sleepover
We came up to Grandma and Grandpa Meyer's for our first sleepover last night/today. Daddy was helping shingle Great Gma/Gpa Meyer's house and it was a two day job. Not wanting to leave mommy and me alone, he brought us along. Luckily Mommy was smart and brought LOTS of diapers, it is only 11:00 and I have only 3 left. I heard her say she hopes I don't poop anymore! :-)
We slept pretty good! Mommy was a little nervous when I wasn't up yet after 4 hours, but then after the 5th hour of sleep I woke her up for a good feeding. Then I didn't get up again for another 3 hours. My cousins Paige and Aiden must have really worn me out. Aiden seems like a crazy man. He made Mommy and Grandma pretty nervous bopping around me. I hope I have that much energy at age 3.
The picture above is our first "grandchildren" picture. I can't wait to go to my Grandma and Grandpa Petersen's this weekend. We are going to celebrate August birthdays and I can't wait to meet and see my other cousins on my mommy's side of the family.

We (I) just woke up from a VERY long night again. I'm going to attempt to be the 'mean' mom today and keep him awake as much as possible today. No more hanging out all bundled up. :-) I think my biggest issues will be with Joshua, he doesn't want Jonah to ever be sad. Cute and wonderful, but hardest on me at night.
Joshua has been a GREAT, AMAZING, FABULOUS, etc. so far and will continue to be. He has been so helpful and tries really hard to make sure we are both happy. He has taken some advice that was given to me when we got married, "never start doing something you don't intend to ever do again or do often." He has not and will not change a dirty or even wet diaper. We are pretty much a tag team in that area. He undresses and gets wipes, holds the pacifier, etc, and I change the diaper and dispose of the yuck. He'll dress him back up again and calm him down.
I know I give him a hard time sometimes, but I want to put it out there for all to know that I couldn't be more blessed in my life with my amazing husband and son.
Now to go get that little bugger and wake him up. :-) Thanks for the encouraging words from our faithful readers. We appreciate them all (especially me, reminds me that this is a phase to work through). THANKS AGAIN!!

Sleep time
We've had a few miracles (what I call them) or schedule changes with the feedings and sleeping last night. After nursing him for almost a straight hour, 2 hours in a row, I wasn't up for doing the cluster thing all night again. I'd called the lactation specialist on Saturday morning and she said to maybe get him to flip his awake/sleep hours to get him up as much as possible and feed as much as possible in the day so he'll sleep longer at night. So, we tried that and at 10:30 last night he was still eating most of the hour. Nervous that he might be getting 'too much' or 'not enough' and the sudden kankles I have developed I called the OB Floor to find out if we were 'normal' and what we could do.
The nurse said to supplement his million feedings with an ounce of formula to maybe 'fill him up' for a few hours. I REALLY didn't want to, but broke down at midnight and gave him some. It didn't work. I was back up at 12:45 nursing again. HOWEVER, (this is where the miracle starts) he has slept for at least an hour in between 3 feedings now from 3:00am-present (8:30am). So we are making some headway in the sleep department. I'm glad my mom is still here, hopefully I can get some more shut eye if he doesn't go right back asleep or gets up early again.
Thanks again to all of you who have sent cards, emails, texts, phone calls to check in on us and wish us all well. We are doing better now and hopefully it will continue to improve.
I just have to remember that he is still tiny, not even a week old yet. It will come.

A few lessons learned
Man, my parents are always busy. Dad is either in the field or running around for things for mom. Mom is always sitting with me nursing, changing my diaper, or attempting to catch a quick nap while dad has me. They say I've completely changed their world. I'd have to say my life is pretty sweet right now. Everyone at my beck and call. :-)
I've been teaching them a few things about life with a baby. So I guess you could say we have a whole house full of teachers. Let's go over the lessons I've taught thus far:
Feedings: I want one every hour on the hour or half hour or whenever I want. I'll take a good 20-30 minutes to do it, so mom will maybe get a half hour of sleep in between. That is if she can get me down, to bed, and asleep with the little time between my food cravings. I must admit that I've been pretty demanding. I kept her hopping on our first and second nights home. I was doing what the Allen nurses call 'cluster feeding' where I want food every hour... which is described above. My deal was that I did my cluster feeding from 11:30pm until 4:30am, not prime times for someone who wants sleep.
Diaper time: I have had to remind mommy twice now what it means to have a little boy in the house. It has been a little embarrassing, getting pee and poo all over the changing table and even pee in my eye once. She uses a tissue over my wee-wee now whenever the diaper isn't covering it. I'm glad she's caught on to my many cues. She has figured out that if it's time to change my diaper and my legs are straight out, I haven't finished yet. It can cause a big mess if she doesn't pay attention to that one or a dirty diaper instantly after changing the first one.
Sleep: When people told them to get as much sleep before I arrived as they could, they should have listened. :-) Thank goodness Grandma Petersen is here today (Saturday), mom is pretty drowsy. I sometimes see her nod off when she is feeding me. Daddy helps a lot too, he loves holding me and trying to get me to take that awful plastic thing. Doesn't he know I want the real deal. :-) He is a great daddy... we watched a duck hunting show together the last few mornings when mommy is taking a bath. I like the sound of the ducks coming in.
Well, it is time to eat. I'd better sign off and chow down.

Jill sent these pics today. Just a few more to show off how cute he is. I hope to get some others downloaded from our first few days here at home before he wakes up. He's been sleeping almost all morning. I got some sleep, but will probably regret not sleeping the whole time he is asleep.
He was wide awake for a diaper and clothing change about an hour ago, but is back to snug as a bug mode now. We have our first dr appt this afternoon with our ped. so I'm sure he'll get some stimulation later. :-)

We made it...
We made it through our first night home. It was a LONG one. Josh went to sleep around 9:30 and slept until I told him it was his turn at 4:30am. I spent most of the night nursing (a lot), trying to get him to sleep, and attempting to sleep myself. I'm sure I broke all the cardinal rules (letting him sleep while feeding (while I caught a few secs myself) and trying to get some sleep myself by holding him surrounded by blankets and pillows. :-)
I fed him again around 5am and then went to sleep for about an hour. Joshua of course hung out with a sleeping baby in the living room.
I hope to get some more sleep while Jonah is sleeping now. Josh is heading to the field and so I'm on my own again.

We're Home!
Jonah has had quite the day today. He ate around 8ish, had a bath (which was quite traumatic for him) and then after refusing to eat he went to have his circumcision. Josh and I ran around the hospital running errands (making appointments, getting our breast pump, and prescriptions).
He hung out with the nurses and slept, he was still super sleepy when we got back upstairs around 11ish and wouldn't eat. We were discharged around 11:30 and we ventured out into the outside world for the first time. Daddy got him in the car seat base and mommy sat next to him for the ride home. We took a detour to Walmart to get a few things for home and then ventured to Garwin.
We got home and went to Roger and Donna's to get our mail and to show off our little one. Donna could barely contain herself to get her hands on him. He stayed in the car seat though. :-)
We came in, got a few things in the house and fed little Jonah. He ate for a bit and I took a soak. Then when I got out I changed his very dirty diaper and then he fed again for another 45 min, 20 on one and 25 on the other! He was a hungry little fella. I finally cut him off, and he's been going to town on his pacifier for a little while now, but it has only been a little over an hour.
He sat in his swing for a little bit, wasn't super keen on it at first, just sitting, not swinging. He liked the music for a little bit, but I think he is too deep in it, and he slides down a little if you sit him too upright. We walked around the house for awhile together and he is now sitting in his bouncy chair with the vibrator button on. He is pretty content but sucking on that paci like mad!
I should rest, but it feels like I have a million things to do. Donna is going to bring supper over later, :-) goulash I think. Yum!
Okay, I'm going to hold my little bundle now, I'll update later.

A long first day
So we were awake this morning pretty early with nurses in and out and then just "being awake." We had a little down time right away this morning, enjoyed some breakfast (finally something in my tummy) and a good feeding of Jonah. Then the guests started to arrive around 11:30 and there was a steady stream all day through 8:15ish tonight. It was good to see everyone and we are SO GREATFUL for all our friends and family who have already shown so much love for our new little guy. The cute outfits and gifts are so wonderful, we couldn't be more thrilled with your generosity.
I'm pooped out, I really hope to get some good hard sleep tonight so I can go home "refreshed" as possible tomorrow. Jonah is still eating well, had some good stools and wet diapers, so he is getting plenty. He's been pretty content today, sleeping tons, eating every few hours, and enjoying everyone who has come to see him, except the cameras. He scrunches his nose, even with his eyes closed he somehow knows it's there. :-)
Daddy went out to eat with some family tonight so it has been a quieter evening for me, good to get some 'alone' time with my new little guy and just relax.
I've been watching the Cubs game, trying to instill some Cubs loving in our new little one. He got a home and away outfit (one blue, one gray) from Jon and Bethany today, so he is all set. The Cubs are losing now, so not really a good night to get him all gung-ho about the Cubbies, but then again, to be a Cubs fan you kind of have to be prepared for a loss. :-)
I'm going to try and get some sleep now, THANKS SO MUCH again for all the emails, blog comments, phone calls, and text messages. We are a blessed family.

Good Morning!
Hello all!
I've finally arrived and am doing well. I'm a pretty smart little guy with eating. I latched right on and have done a great job from the start. I'm sleeping now, getting in some good snoozes while Mommy and Daddy have slept for most of 2am-7am. (minus the bugging of nurses and feeding me at least once)
Everyone says I'm a cute little guy, I know you can see that. :-) Mommy was really surprised to see that I was a boy, everyone was thinking I was going to be a girl. Mommy also was the first one to announce what I was. Dr. Hintz tried to hide, but she was quick. My first cry came a little later than they liked and I've had a little trouble with my breathing and gagging a little on gunk that was in there with me in mommy. I've gotten a lot better since last night and am doing WAY better now.
I've had two dirty diapers and a bath. Mom and dad got to sleep through them all while the nurses took care of me. They are all really nice here. Jennifer was mommy's nurse yesterday when we first came in at 11am until 7pm and then Megan and Tammi took over. Megan being Mom's nurse and Tammi being mine.
Well, I'm going to get some more sleep and maybe get some food here soon. Come on in and see me, they said we'll be here until Thursday mid day.

My first cry came a little later than they liked and I've had a little trouble with my breathing and gagging a little on gunk that was in there with me in mommy. I've gotten a lot better since last night and am doing WAY better now.
I've had two dirty diapers and a bath. Mom and dad got to sleep through them all while the nurses took care of me. They are all really nice here. Jennifer was mommy's nurse yesterday when we first came in at 11am until 7pm and then Megan and Tammi took over. Megan being Mom's nurse and Tammi being mine.
Well, I'm going to get some more sleep and maybe get some food here soon. Come on in and see me, they said we'll be here until Thursday mid day.

8:25
Dr. Hintz was just in visiting, he said, "yep she is still pregnant". He said she is to a 7, and will check back in a couple hours. Not the news we wanted to hear, but at least we are progressing, I guess.
7:30 P.M.
I was tough until 3:30! Then the contractions became stronger then I could handle. IT WAS TIME FOR THE EPIDORAL! After the epidoral things seem to slow down, and we are just hanging out watching the Cubs game. (at least they are winning) The Grandma's have been waiting patiently for quite a while, also Grandpa Petersen decided to join the waiting game.
3 cm and counting
I was 2cm 50% when I came in (same as at my last appointment on Thursday) but just now after seeing the doc for the first time (1:15pm) I am now 3 cm. The nurse said we won't see him again until after office hours. He is going into surgery now and might check on me with the nurses, but won't see me until later.
He says he has to make a prediction, according to hospital code, so he says the baby will be 7 lbs, 2.4 oz, he has never been more than 3lbs off. :-) Let's hope he doesn't break his record today. An eleven lb baby would really stink!

We're In!!
We finally got here at 11 oclockish and we were in admitted and in bed by 11:15am. It is now 11:40 and I've got an IV with Pitosin in it b/c I haven't been contracting at all, but my "water" has been broken for 12 hours. They are going to give me antibiotics too soon to just be safe, b/c it has been so long since my water has broken.
The nurse has been great so far, her name is Jennifer. She is a "no boloney" kind of lady. She said I'm in here for the long haul and "if" I have my baby today, so it could/will be awhile.
Mom's are apparently coming around 1pm. Dr. Hintz won't come down to see me until his lunch hour. So another 20/30 min longer.
How our morning went:
The trip here was fun! I called Dr. Hintz around 8:25, he called me back around 8:40, Josh got home about 9, we left around 9:45. He showered and took his time. Guess that wasn't such a big deal now.
I started driving, yeah, driving myself to the hospital. :-) He had to finish putting his numbers into his handheld for work. Once we got to the 63 turn towards Traer, we swapped out and he finished the drive in. I must say, I was much speedier than he was. He was very non-chalaunt and took his time.
The funny of the morning was his almost veer off the hospital route. We are supposed to take the straight route through Hudson to follow "Hudson Road" into CF, but he wanted to follow 63 to Wloo (which is a lot more stop lights and takes longer). He wasn't able to lapse long, as I kindly reminded him to go straight. :-)
It is now 11:45 and he is out getting something to eat. The contractions are just starting to get stronger. up to 40 on the scale on the monitor. Not too bad yet. I wish I could eat something, should have had more for breakfast. Heck, I had enough time to cook quite a bit. Oh well. It's ice water for me for now.
I'm guessing this is long enough for now, so I'll post again later, if I'm feeling up to it on to how we are progressing. Hopefully baby soon!

8:40am- I just talked to Dr. Hintz and he said to come on in and get checked out. I'm patiently waiting for Joshua to return home and then we'll head to Waterloo.

11pm- Aug 3- water break??
I'm pretty sure my water broke at 11pm, however no contractions came along with it. I waited until 12:00 to call OB at Allen and she said to wait another hour to see if I have a lot more fluid coming and if it does, come in to the hospital, if not call my doctor in the AM. I changed clothes and went back to bed. Well, I surprisingly fell asleep. At 2:15am I woke up and not much fluid, so following the nurse's directions, I stayed in bed and then when I got up again at 5:15 still nothing. No contractions, just a little 'show' and thankfully some movement from child. That has made me the most nervous.
I've done some research this morning and most resources say I have up to 24 hrs to give birth after my water breaks and that contractions don't always start right after the break.
It is now 6:06am, Josh went to the field at 5:40 to get in as much as possible before I call him with what Dr. Hintz said. Dr. Hintz's office opens at 8:30am I think, so I'll call then to see what he wants me to do. I'll keep you posted.

August 3- due date
Well, today is the due date. I have walked around the house all day, gone up and down the stairs, bounced on the exercise ball, and even gotten some more foot rubs.
Nothing yet. :-(
Congrats to our friends Derek and Kate. We've been on the same everything in our pregnancies, thus far, but looks like if something doesn't happen soon, we are not going to deliver on the same day. They had a little girl. (ex: same due date, appointment dates, sometimes same appt times, we found out we were preg the same day, etc)
We'll let you all know! Thanks for all the text messages and phone calls today, it is obvious there are more than just us who want to meet this little one so badly!

ps (edit to post) - It is now 9:40pm and I just scratched off a winner on a crossword lottery ticket. $30, not much of a consolation for what I really wanted today. Oh well.
Josh's ticket didn't produce anything, poor guy. :-)

Well, we made it through the Meyer camp out. There were a lot of disappointed family members today when we went back out for breakfast. (We cheated and went to sleep at Stan and Denise's instead of "camping")
It was a lot of fun hanging out with everyone again and meeting some new faces from far away. It was a LATE night and early morning, so I was BEAT when we got home around 1pm. I slept for a few hours and then had some friends stop by after dropping off kids at church camp.
Now to find some food and WAIT!.
We're going to shoot for tonight/tomorrow. I'm ready to be done being pregnant. Maybe it's my obsession with schedules, due date= baby, :-) or maybe it is the fact that I'm 40 weeks and just tired of it. More than likely both. I'm a little more swollen today, fingers very fat and toes/ankles noticeable. I can still see my ankle bones. :-D
We'll keep you all posted!

Well, my husband has griped enough, I've started a mad cleaning of my house today. The whole house has been vacuumed, dusted, (even the baseboards), the bathroom has been cleaned top to bottom, the entryway has been de-dog haired, and the bedroom has been picked up. I'm going to work on the kitchen next, but just went to the bathroom and have noticed that my plug is gradually coming out.
This is great news for those of you that want a baby NOW!
We are going to be heading up to the Meyer Reunion Campout today, later on this afternoon/evening. I'm going to be sure we have EVERYTHING along. The due date of the 3rd is still in reach, but who knows when this junior is coming. :-) (only God)
