20 Months and Spring Time

This past week we've had spring break and the week home with Jonah this time was MUCH MORE enjoyable.

We read lots of books, played outside in the beautiful weather, went on lots of walks, went to the zoo, track practice, and he even got to spend some time at daycare as mommy had a few doctor's appointments.

When daddy was home we watched lots of basketball and Jonah got a new potty! He picked it out himself, a nice green frog to sit on. He's sat on it some already, but not super interested. :-) My hope is that by reading some potty books and taking a few squats on the potty now and again will get him more comfortable with the idea and make the process smooth in the future. We'll see how it all goes.

My doctor appointments during spring break were a few first for me. On Tuesday I went to Dr. Gesme to get my left breast checked out. I'd been having some pains in it for about a month and thought it was about time I get it checked out. He said I was pretty lumpy, but an ultrasound revealed that my fat layer is pretty thin and irregular between the skin and breast tissue, which was leading to all the "lumps." A mammogram confirmed that all was clear and so not another one until I'm 40. :-)

My other "first" was a root canal on Wednesday. I had a large cavity filled in December and apparently the nerve in that tooth wasn't real thrilled with the filling so close to it. :-P
So I went and got a root canal, not the horrible experience I was expecting. It was done in 45 min from the time I went back to walked out, NO pain and I just need to go get the temp crown replaced with a permanent crown at my regular dentist sometime soon.


Some of Jonah's quirks:

Food- still won't eat from a spoon/fork, but getting more in at meals. LOVES deer ring bologna. LOVES milk and is getting used to lots of juice too. He like cheerios and crackers and BBQ chips. His favorite fruit is still strawberries, but grapes are a close second.

Sleep- still in our bedtime routine. We've started going to bed around 7:45/8 now, instead of 7:30... seems to fight it less and he's still sleeping from 8/8:15-6:00am. Spring break week worked out well as it was Daylight Savings time. He got to sleep in all week. :-)

Talking- he's really starting to mimic what we say. He'll repeat just about anything/everything. His favorite words are: NO, horse, milk, stuck, and stairs. He can say tractor better and will repeat the majority of the ABC sounds and letter names. When he counts he still says "two" for all the numbers. One, two, two... instead of one two three.

He's become a pretty independent player these days, doesn't need our full attention to have a good time. He also likes to play with others, but is skiddish of rough kids. He loves little girls, he brings the little girls toys and gives them lots of smiles and attention while he is nice to the little boys, but not as nice. :-)

19 Mo & RSV

Well March came in like a Lion at our house. Jonah was diagnosed with RSV on Monday Feb 28 and we rode the yucky, scary RSV wave all the way through Friday. I took Monday, Tuesday, and Friday off and Josh took Wed and Thurs.
On Monday when I took him into the doc for the first time Dr. Krishna told us we had 2 choices. 1) admit him to the hospital or 2) take him home and treat him there while we watch him like a hawk. He was retracting pretty good and coughing tons. His pulse oxs levels were pretty low, (low 90s/high 80s).

Jonah has RSV, he is retracting some in his ribs so he could've tech been admitted to the hosp 2day. Doc said his pulse ox was good so if he gets 4hr neb treatments & is watched like a hawk for anymore retractions he is safe to come home. We have an appt right away in the AM again. He is drinking fluids. Please pray for him to come out of this on his own without having to be admitted. THANKS!

on our way to doc. hopefully we did everything right last night and we can come home again. I'm packed for a stay, just in case. I'll update as soon as I can. Thanks for the prayers.

‎2 treatments at doc and a BIG nose cleaning. Still pulse ox around 95/96. Still retracting too. We'll see what Dr Krishna wants to do next. These ladies at Peoples Clinic are SO amazing!

So we are home, had a nap and more tylenol. He temp has been going up and down, but he's teething on top of all of this. He has another neb treatment at 2 and more steroid after supper. We are in the same boat as yesterday, could go in, but now the hospitals are full. So we'll keep doing what we are doing here and go back everyday to the doc. :-) It is nice to stay in our own beds. :-)

He's home with dad today. Appt isn't until 3:10. I hope they have a good day and get better as the day goes on. He ate some yest & had a full diaper this AM! YEAH!! Still coughing awful and full of yuck. Still wheezy too. Doing great w/ nebs though, just sits & whines instead of fights.

2hrs again at the doc. Chest xray and pulse ox still low. They will be calling w/ the xray results. They are looking for pneumonia (hopefully not finding any) Another appt on Friday unless the xray is bad. Then we'll be back tomorrow. Thanks for your comments, thoughts, and prayers. Much appreciated. Phil 4:13- "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us."

onah seems to be on the mend. He hasn't had tylenol since yesterday and is eating better. The coughing persists and now he's hoarse from all the coughing, but not it's not at "thick." Looking forward to hearing "all systems go" from the doc tomorrow at 11. :-)

18 months- Where has the time gone! (2-4-11)

My baby is a year and a half!

Loves:
Horses, his rocking horse, Milk, bath time, snuggling with dad on the couch in the AM, computers, being read to at night, rocking after stories, putting his dirty diaper in the diaper pail (must be some sort of accomplishment thing), sleeping in the car, to say "no," Jewel our dog, hanging out on the table watching out the window, playing with any kind of strap/buckle combo. (like on his bike helmet and high chair), wearing his PJs all day,

Hates:
getting his diaper changed, waking up in the morning, the drive back and forth from school/daycare, to hear the word"No," sitting in a highchair or booster at a restaurant, having to get off the table, coughing (which seems like a constant thing),

Milestones:
Has 12 teeth, runs all over, never stops moving or yammering. He is really trying to communicate and gets frustrated at times when we don't understand what he wants.

Still a climber and learning more signs as we go. He can now sign: milk, mom, dad, more, light, phone, cracker (kind of), and bed (we are working on please and thank you) :-)

Everyone thinks he is "so well behaved" when we go places, until he gets comfortable. :-) Then he's a crazy man!

Quirks:
His "gps" still works at times; at least he still tries to use it.

First "Family" Snow Day of the Year

This was round 2 for Josh, 2nd snow day of the school year, but my first one. :-) I was really looking forward to not having to use our 2nd built in snow day, but oh well. We have already gotten our text message for tomorrow- No School again. The winter weather slam has arrived :-/

Here is a short review of our day. We did venture out to go to Josh's school in the morning. He got some stuff done for his portfolio and Jonah got to run around in a new and much bigger space. He got to play at the school, took a nap in his own bed (for only 45 min) and got super excited about the snow once we opened the curtains. He talked to grandma Meyer on the webcam (he never stopped talking or moving), colored on the big paper, played with an ice cube, got rolled up like a burrito, and so much more.


He really loved to tape with the Flip Camera, which you'll see in the video.
I don't have the burrito fun or the ice cube fun in this video, I'll get that up here soon. :-)

17 Months and loving it

Jonah has grown up SO Much since my last post (I know WAY TOO LONG ago). Here are a few of his milestones thus far.

Eating:

Jonah has always been a picky eater, but these last few months we've had some YEAHS! and some NAYS! He was getting better at least using the fork, but still won't let us feed him. He only uses it once in awhile, and we PRAISE it when it happens, but he doesn't do it often. He likes to eat mainly between meals, snacks are big. We try to limit them, but fall into that trap of "well he didn't eat anything for lunch/etc" He eats great at daycare (usually). We spent the last week over Christmas break not eating anything. It was a long week, but he finally ate some ramen noodles to get him eating again.
He loves popcorn, gerber snacks, and milk. He'll drink a whole gallon a day of milk if we'd let him.

Sleeping:

He has done a great job with night times for a long time now. We have our routine of bath, books/music, and bed and it works great! It has even worked well as we travel back and forth to Grandma's and such. The only snafu sometimes is having a cd player available to play the music. We don't always have a rocker either, but he's done well with that thus far.

Naps are getting better. He sleeps for 1.5-2 hours regularly at daycare, goes down by rocking and music and they can lay him into his crib no problem. At home we have had a lot of struggles with naps. He fights the rocking and he is super hard to lay down. Laying him down in bed is an absolute failure. So up until today (1/2/11) we have had to hold him in the rocker for the 2 sometimes 3 hrs that he naps. At times this is okay as we sometimes snooze as well, but most the time it is extremely annoying as we have so much we can/could get done with him napping. Today I said, "let's lay down." He ran to the fridge for milk and sat down on my lap with no fuss in the rocking chair. He was out before I got the first book read. After about 10 min in the chair I was able to lay him on a blanket on the living room floor. He woke up a little, but I laid down beside him and rubbed his back. He was out in about 2 minutes. He slept that way for about 45 min before waking up for a short sip of milk and a back rub again before falling asleep again for another 35 minutes or so. :-) Victory for sure, I got a lot done while he was snoozing on his own. :-)

Talking:

He has become quite the chatterbox when he's someplace where he feels comfortable. Sometimes it takes him a good few hours to get warmed up and other times he is yammering on non-stop from the get go. He can say the following words well and in context: horse, go, mom, dad, yes, no, up, all done, bath, book, hat, tacto (tractor), and dog.

He really understands a lot more than he can say, we can ask him questions and he either goes to get what we are asking for or takes us to what he wants. He is quite the yammerer, he'll jabber on about all kinds of things with a silly smile on his face the whole time.

Playing:

He LOVES to ride his rocking horse and wear his cowboy hat while doing so. He loves to climb and has been locked out of the bathroom due to climbing on toilet to get to the counter. He loves to chase after the dog or at least yell at her and be SO excited! He won't pet her, but loves to have her near. He plays with many toys, but loves the ones that make music. He dances all over and whenever any kind of music comes on (commercials on tv, radio, toys, phone ringers, etc).

I'm sure I've forgotten SO Much and I'll be posting some Christmas stuff soon. I am really sad that I have let this go. I just don't have that much time anymore since he is such a mover. We always need to keep an eye on him and interact with him so much more. I'd much rather spend some quality time with Jonah than typing on the computer. Besides, he's obsessed with this thing, he would always want to help and be much more of a hinderance. :-)

Giggle Tooth Monster

He has 10 teeth now, so we've started to brush his teeth. He really likes the bristles on his teeth. Not such a fan of the toothpaste, but loves the bristles.

Halloween 2010

He didn't really have a great time with the whole trick or treating thing, it was a lot of costume on, costume off, costume on kind of a deal. Those egg cartons don't bend well for the carseat. :-)

He did enjoy seeing family and especially his grandmas and cousins. By the end of the night the egg cartons had started to come off and he was done with it. Glad Halloween is only 1 night long.
